FAIR OAKS, Calif. — In the morning hours of Monday, March 22, officials with the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a man and woman found dead at a home in the 5100 Block of Rabeneck Way. The two had been found with multiple gunshot wounds by a USPS mail carrier, authorities say. The mail carrier was making a regular delivery to the home and observed the couple lying dead, surrounded by blood.
Sherriff’s spokesperson Sgt. Rodney Grassmann said the bodies were those of a young man and woman who knew each other. He added nothing else about how the pair knew one another.
“I’m comfortable saying that they knew each other, but I don’t know the nature of their relationship at this point,” Grassman said. He added that authorities currently have no suspect in the case. Grassman said a firearm had been recovered from the scene.
“It may have happened an hour or more before it was actually reported,” Grassman said.
According to audiotape, the duo is believed to have been shot 3-4 times. Investigators believe nearby construction prevented neighbors from hearing the gunshots, which is why the deaths took so long to be reported.
By Tuesday, no new information had been released in the shooting. Deputies obtained a search warrant for the home to search for clues and possible leads to a suspect.
Detectives ask anyone with information about this fatal shooting to call deputies at 916-874-5115 or Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at 916-443-4357. Tips can also be submitted confidentially through the P3 Tips website and app.
The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release the names of the victims upon the notification of their next-of-kin.
