WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The mother of 43 year-old capital murder suspect Derrick Woods was arrested Friday in connection to the death of 1-year-old Amanda Marie Owens, who Woods is suspected of torturing and murdering at Silvey’s Motel in West Sacramento.
Woods was previously arrested following a manhunt shortly after the child’s death.
Detectives with the West Sacramento Police Department arrested 58-year-old Annette Womack midday Friday. She is the second suspect to be arrested as a result of the investigation into the death of Owens, who was killed as a result of ‘traumatic injuries’ on February 15th.
Womack, who had previously spoken on Woods’ behalf, was booked into the Yolo County Jail on charges of felony aiding and abetting as well as child endangerment, the department said in a press release.
Woods is currently eligible for the death penalty, however, prosecutors haven’t decided on pursuing it.
Woods plead not guilty on all counts through a public defender at his arraignment.
