WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Police shot and killed a man in a Walmart parking lot in West Sacramento Thursday afternoon following reports of a man with a knife, according to officials.

Sergeant Stefan Iwanicki says officers were dispatched to the Walmart parking lot at 3:45 P.M near Riverpoint Court.

Officers approached the man, believed to have been in his 20s, and shot him as he got out of his car with an item in his hand. Officials haven’t confirmed whether or not the man was armed.

Witnesses at the nearby Arco gas station say officers surrounded the man’s car, yelling commands before shooting him.

“He was clearly dead on the ground, just laying on the ground, and we saw police still pointing guns at him,” a witness said.

“One of the cops shot him with a taser and the other guys just started shooting him with the gun,” another witness said.

CBS13 photographers photographed a gun and knife on the ground near the suspect’s body.
